Objective VS Subjective: A Deep Dive Into the Modern Energy Chart & The SUE Scale

Objective VS Subjective: A Deep Dive Into the Modern Energy Chart & The SUE Scale The SUE Scale (SUBJECTIVE Units of Experience) is easy to understand. You show it to a human being and ask them to point where they are on the scale of -10 to +10. Yet, the Modern Energy Chart is said to be OBJECTIVE. How can a scale of human emotional states, energy states, ever be objective? And why do we need both? Let's find out.

The Modern Energy Chart Is OBJECTIVE

The Modern Energy Chart is based on the combined observations on how behaviour and energy states relate not only of many people, but it is indeed structural to at least all social mammals.

It therefore describes a dynamic process that happens for real, all the time, and not just in human beings.

When we observe someone else, we can estimate their states based on our observations.

We can further observe how their behaviour changes when we employ methods to move them up or down the scale described in the Modern Energy Chart.

Beyond behavioural changes, there are also physiological changes directly related to the energy states as described in the Modern Energy Chart.

The Modern Energy Chart describes a natural, dynamic phenomenon that we can observe, record and measure in a multitude of different ways.

The SUE Scale – Now, It Gets Personal!

We cannot ask an animal to tell us where it is on the SUE Scale, but children as young as 2 can point to where β€œthey are.”

When people first encounter the SUE Scale, and particularly, when they are in low energy states, they might place themselves lower than we can objectively observe they are.

For example, individuals might wrongfully place themselves at -8 because they feel particularly depressed, but the fact that they are here and having an interaction tells us that objectively, they cannot be at -8, which is a state where communication has ceased and an individual is incapable of seeking help.

For any clinician or therapist, to note a variation from what they can discern and where the client mis-matches their SUE reading, is extremely valuable.

For the client, understanding that they are perhaps not quite as depressed (or angry, or paranoid, or unfeeling) as they thought they were, can help significantly with their ongoing stress management.

As both the SUE Scale and the Modern Energy Chart describe a dynamic process where a person can MOVE, both up as well as down, and very rapidly at that, with experience, the two come into harmony and the client's self readings become far more accurate.

This, in and of itself, is a step in the process of becoming more aware of energy states in general and aiming to raise the energy average over time, by spending less time in negative energy states, spending more time in positive energy states, and aiming for significantly higher energy states as a goal in both therapy as well as personal development.

The Move From SUE To MEC

A fascinating side effect of becoming consciously aware and being accurate in energy state assessment is that users of the SUE Scale will eventually start to map the behaviour of other people as well as other social mammals to what by then has become the Modern Energy Chart.

When this has happened, and although a user may refer to β€œThat woman is having a +7 on the SUE Scale!” they are indeed applying the objective Modern Energy Chart to the current situation.

Why Do We Even Need The SUE Scale?

The SUE (Subjective Units of Experience) Scale and the Modern Energy Chart (MEC) serve distinct yet complementary purposes in understanding and managing energy states:

  1. Subjectivity vs. Objectivity:

    • SUE Scale: This is fundamentally a subjective tool. It allows individuals to self-assess their current emotional or energy state, which can be particularly useful in personal development or therapy settings. The SUE Scale gives individuals a language to express how they feel internally, which might not align perfectly with external observations but is crucial for self-awareness.

    • Modern Energy Chart (MEC): This appears to aim for a more objective analysis, describing universal patterns in behavior and energy states across species, not just humans. It provides a framework for observing and interpreting these states in others, which can be applied in social, clinical, or research contexts.

  2. Personal Application:
    • The SUE Scale helps individuals identify where they are on an emotional or energy spectrum at any given moment, which can be empowering in personal growth. It's tailored for self-assessment, helping people to recognize, articulate, and eventually manage their energy states more effectively.

  3. Therapeutic and Clinical Benefits:
    • In therapy, the discrepancy between self-assessment using the SUE Scale and the objective observations from clinicians using the MEC can lead to valuable insights. This mismatch can highlight areas where the client might need more support or where their perception needs adjustment, aiding in more targeted therapeutic interventions.

  4. Educational and Awareness Tool:
    • The transition from using the SUE Scale personally to applying the broader MEC in observing others reflects an evolution in understanding. It educates users on how energy states manifest in behaviors across different beings, enhancing empathy, interpersonal understanding, and social interactions.

  5. Research and Broader Application:
    • The MEC could be instrumental in research that looks at energy states across different species or in different social contexts, potentially contributing to fields like animal behavior, psychology, or even organizational behavior where understanding energy dynamics could optimize performance or well-being.

  6. Empowerment and Control:
    • Knowing one's energy state via the SUE Scale gives individuals a sense of control over their emotional health. It allows for proactive steps towards better management of one's emotional life, which is the essence of personal development.

In summary, we need the SUE Scale because it offers a personal, subjective measure of one's energy state, which is essential for self-awareness and self-regulation. This subjective measure complements the objective observations provided by the MEC, creating a holistic approach to understanding and managing energy states both personally and in broader social contexts.
